Summer at ALC - The Promises of God

SPEAKER: Pastor Dustin Smith
June 29, 2024

The Promises Of God
Pastor Dustin Smith

According to one account, there are over 3,000 promises in the Bible. The Bible is full of God’s promises!

Those promises reminds us that…
God is at work in our lives
Gods promises never fail
What He says will happen, will happen
That He supplies our every need

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death.
2 Corinthians 1:8-9

But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.
2 Corinthians 1:9-10
-Even through the despair Paul never loses sight of where his help comes from.

But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us-by me and Silas and Timothy-was not “Yes’ and “No,” but in him it has always been “Yes.” For not matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so, through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:18-20

1. Gods Promises are Yes and Amen!

Top Funniest Broken Promises by Politicians
1. Eisenhower promised that things are more like they are now than they ever were before
2. Newt Gingrich promised a moon colony by 2020
3. Gabriel Green promised to eliminate poverty with credit cards
4. Alan Caruba promised to end boredom and hold a telethon to end the national debt
5. Vermin Supreme while running for president promised ponies for everyone.

People and Politicians might break their promises but our heavenly Father will not!

“Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.”
Joshua 21:45

Well then, has God failed to fulfill his promise to Israel? No, for not all who are born into the nation of Israel are truly members of God’s people! Being descendants of Abraham doesn’t make them truly Abrahams children. For the Scriptures say, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted,” though Abraham had other children, too.
Romans 9:6-7

This means that Abraham’s physical descendants are not necessarily children of God. Only the children of the promise are considered to be Abraham’s children.
Romans 9:8

So, then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.
Ephesians 2:19

2. You are a part of God’s family now and have access to the promises of God!
“But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I will tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:13-18

I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Matthew 16:19

1. God Promises to Strengthen you

“For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being”
Ephesians 3:14-16

2. God Promises to take care of all your Needs

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19

3. God Promises to answer your prayers

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Matthew 7:7

4. God Promises to work everything out for your Good

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
Romans 8:28

5. God Promises to be with You

“I will not fail you or abandon you. This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:5

6. God Promises to Protect You

“This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.”
Psalm 91:2

7. God Promises that nothing can separate you from Him

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39

3. Respond to the Promises of God

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
2 Peter 1:3-4

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises.”
2 Peter 1:4-5

1. Search the Word
2. Memorize the Word
3. Believe and claim the Word over your life

8. God Promises you Everlasting life

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
