Book of Colossians
The City of Colosse, City In Asia Minor (Turkey)
Written In A.D. 61 Possibly As Late As A.D. 64
1 Of 4 Prison Epistles
Colossians, Ephesians, Philippians, And Philemon
For I want you to know what a great conflict (For Their Maturity In Christ) I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged (Encouragement/Not Discouragement),
Colossians 2:1-2a
being knit together (Greek -Sumbibazo-Compacted Together) in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom (Christ) are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2b:3
Context Is King “The Mystery of God”
Back To Chapter 1
the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:26-27
That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance (Make Certain) of understanding, to the acknowledgement (Attaining – NKJV) of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
Colossians 2:2 KJV
Acknowledgment
1. The act of admitting or owning to something.
2. Recognition of another’s existence, validity, authority, or right”
(American Heritage Dictionary).
You can’t acknowledge or admit something that is not already true.
Paul was not instructing them to seek to get Christ in them but to admit what was already true. It is already a reality that every believer is indwelt by the Spirit of Christ
Now this I say lest anyone should deceive (to deceive…cheat…divert) you with persuasive words For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
Colossians 2:4-5
The Best Test
Is It True?
Is It Scriptural?
Is It Godly?
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:6-7
Faith Is Incomplete Without Thanksgiving
Beware (Cautious) lest anyone cheat you (“spoil” KJV- Carry One Off As A Captive) through philosophy (Mindsets of the World) and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. or in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Colossians 2:8-10
J.B. Phillips New Testament Translation
Be careful that nobody spoils your faith through intellectualism or high-sounding nonsense. Such stuff is at best founded on men’s ideas of the nature of the world and disregards Christ!
Colossians 2:8
Philosophies of The World – (Mindsets of the World)
Evolution, Humanism, Materialism, Marxism, Paganism, Polytheism, Relativism And Anything Else That Violates Christian Philosophies
In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
Colossians 2:11-12
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh (SIN), He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us (The Law), which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Colossians 2:13-14
The Old Testament Law Was Given To Show Us Our Sin (Romans 3:19), Not Our Savior. The Law Was Condemning (see note 1 at 2 Corinthians 3:7), And It Empowered Sin In Our Lives.
Having disarmed (“Apekduomai” – Totally Stripped) principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
(Roman Times Understanding)
Colossians 2:15
So let no one judge you in food (Meats) or in drink (Grapes -Nazarite Vow), or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
Colossians 2:16-17
“Therefore, anyone who uses the O.T. dietary laws for anything other than symbolism that finds its complete fulfillment in Christ, is in error. Those who preach that the dietary laws were for health reasons are missing the point that Paul was making in these verses.”
Andrew Wommack Bible Commentary
The Feasts Of Israel
Passover (Leviticus 23:4-5, see note 1 at John 2:13)
The Feast Of Unleavened Bread (Leviticus 23:6-8)
Feast Of Firstfruits (Leviticus 23:9-14)
Feast Of Pentecost (AKA – Feast of Weeks) (Leviticus 23:15-21)
Feast Of Trumpets (Leviticus 23:23-25)
Day Of Atonement (Leviticus 23:26-32)
Feast Of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:33-43)
Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility (Voluntary Humility) and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head (Lifting Up Christ Not Laws and Rules), from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.
Colossians 2:18-19
Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men?
Colossians 2:20-22
These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.
Colossians 2:23
Christianity Is A Relationship With Jesus, Not The Observance Of Rituals
